Three Kings Day

This is our 10th Three Kings Day since moving to San Juan from San Francisco in the year 2000.

In some areas of Puerto Rico, the Christian holiday season is celebrated on Three Kings Day, January 6, not Christmas Day, December 25. In fact, the Christmas tree may not be present at all during the holiday season, whereas a Nativity Scene will be prominently displayed.

I've noticed that, at least in the homes I visit, Christmas Day is increasingly dominant.

From my perspective though, Three Kings Day is a wonderful addition to our Holiday season that I will not easily discard.

It is a great safety valve for those tardy Santa Clause preparations. Whenever a child's gift fails to arrive under the tree on time (USPS, you understand), The shoes left for the Tree Kings to fill are ready recipients.

Also, Christmas seems to stretch into January. More holiday sprit, and family bonding. Just more.

This morning I wished my wife a happy Three Queens Day. While she commented that she could not understand how I come up with "these ideas", she allowed that that was a good one.

Cheers
